It's difficult to call the brand spaces "booths". In my mind, a booth is used at a car show to host Shamwow demonstrations or at a carnival to keep Scarface posters protected from the rain. The brands at Baselworld, especially those on the ground floor of Hall 1, essentially build small buildings full of meetings spaces, photography rooms, lounges, bars, and watch displays. I was blown away by the extravagance, complexity and sheer size of these booths. Imagine the best brand boutique you've ever visited, then add a couple more floors, a bar, and a host of eye catching architectural elements and you're basically envisioning a Baselworld booth. Being temporary structures, the booths are not the most solid of buildings, but the level of elaboration and design is remarkable given their relatively short window of use year after year.
That is where the Emergency II is different.

The soft, high-quality rubber strap uses a standard buckle, but is actually able to be cut to length. Linde Werdelin now offers an alligator and textile strap as well (for an additional price). Everyone originally thought that the Titanium Yellow version of the Oktopus II watch was going to in fact come with a yellow strap. It is much less yellow than it is bright 'mollusk' green, or as I said, fresh avocado.
So I guess I’ll just plunk down my ,900 for that IWC Portuguese Chrono Automatic in steel I’ve been drawn to like the siren’s song drawing the sailors to the rocks. Or, maybe, just maybe, I’ll pay for another one-quarter semester at my daughter’s college in Boston.
Hublot debuted the Big Bang Ferrari collection with two models at launch. There was the titanium version, as well as the Magic Gold version. For 2013 we get three new Big Bang Ferrari models and a bit more understanding of where the collection is going. With five limited edition models in the new Big Bang series, the collection is going strong and we got to talk to Mr. Biver himself about the relationship. Jean-Claude is no longer the CEO of Hublot (Mr. Guadalupe is now), but as the Chairman and thematic father of the brand, he knows Hublot better than anyone and is still the shining voice of the company.

The Gyrowinder consists of a base with the gyroscopic winding system as well as a hand-blown crystal glass dome cover. It also comes with a series of counterweights that can be optionally used in order to keep the face of the watch pointed in a particular direction. This will certainly help keep your watch from getting too dizzy. No doubt serious enthusiasts will joyfully play with the weights to ensure their timepiece is happy. I believe this function is actually intended to make it so that if you are watching the winder in action, the dial of the watch can be set to always face you.
Yup it's big. Yup it's also brash. But sometimes that's OK. At an excellent price point of sub ,000, the P3 offers exceptional value in my eyes. No it isn't Swiss Made, but that aside there is not much that would distinguish this from a watch 5 or 10 times more expensive! The case and dial are fantastically well made, with alternating finishes seen throughout both. The addition of sibrings rubber coating to the case (similar to the IWC Aquatimer Galapagos) brings a nice contrast and feel to the watch, and in terms of the actual presentation box and accessories...well higher priced manufacturers could learn a thing or two from these guys.
The Rolex Milgauss, like all of Rolex's sports lineup, is based on their famous and ubiquitous oyster perpetual case. This is the same case design used in the Submariner or in the Explorer models, however, the Rolex Milgauss is done in a polished 904L steel with a polished smooth bezel that gives it a unique character amongst the other members of the Rolex family of sport watches. On the back of the Rolex Milgauss, unlike the Submariner but like the Sea-Dweller, there are markings for the model, the brand, and Oyster case.

That might be a trivial point of amusement, but its implications are very complicated. Advice from trusted people in the industry was basically "be nice and let brands love you so that you can make a lot of money." That is the game in watch media because the brands control everything. "Would you rather be respected or rich?" My response to that is consistently "I don't want to sell out because I don't need to." I do this because it is fun and it is my passion. And if I merely curtail my editorial to flattering the brands, it will destroy the reason people come to aBlogtoWatch in the first place.
On top of all that, this piece has a chronograph, perpetual calendar, and a secondary timezone that can be displayed by changing to the local time mode (L-TM). There is also a 24 hour display, Bluetooth connection display, and a power reserve display. The power reserve is above and beyond what most Citizen's are capable of, lasting eight months in the dark using Bluetooth, and a whole 17 months without.

There are reasons why people love and wear their watches. Maybe their watch has some emotional connection to an event in their past, maybe it was a gift, and if you are like us (watch nerds) you simply love having a useful mechanical toy on your wrist that also has style. While I usually readily understand my fellow watch enthusiasts, I will be the first to admit that initially I did not understand the subgroup of watch nerds who are quite frankly fanatics of the Officine Panerai brand, otherwise known as the "Paneristis".
Rolex's own description of the Rolex And Icons campaign is, "Worn by luminaries, visionaries and champions. By artists, statesmen, explorers and leaders in their field. Only Rolex can claim such a distinguished group of wearers from the past and present. Rolex pays homage to these remarkable individuals whose lives changed the face of the world." Whether you like Rolex or not, want one or already own one, this is a quality series which at the very least, illustrates what luxury watch brands need to be doing more of online.

The design details of rapid exchange mechanism of bracelet and leather strap plus the fine regulation mechanism from A.Manzoni & Fils, both patented, are though much more detailed and sophisticated than those of Ikepod. Ilkka and me have already developed another ladies watch in the Canopus collection and as well a table clock using our own 8 day power reserve movement. The Canopus Weekplanner is just the first one of the collection.
